Abstract

For groupwork to secure a place among the methods used by social workers, evaluation must become an essential component of groupwork practice. Further, its findings must influence future planning and practice. This paper outlines the importance of adopting a consciously evaluative approach to groupwork practice. A model is then presented which, together with examples of this approach in practice, aims to convey a sense of the feasibility of evaluating the process and outcome of groupwork. User participation is regarded as central to the model.
